The New Toolbox ... a handbook for community based organisations
The New Toolbox... a handbook for community based organisations:
Camilla Symes, The Training Director of the Barnabas Trust, has written a handbook for Community Based Organisations which is based on the training that we give to the CBO's and to the Mentors who work with them. There are 4 different books in the series, and each one contains simple information about different parts of the CBO house , along with interactive exercises to help you to understand and develop each aspect of the life of your CBO. Also included are worked examples, useful forms and checklists along with important legal, technical and tax information that you need to know and the contact details of the relevant government departments.

Volume 1 - Community Based Organisations:
The first book gives information on communities, community needs and how to approach and work with them in a way that builds a sense of participation and ownership. It also contains a "health check" which is a series of exercises and questions that will help you to look at all the different parts of your organisation (as shown in the CBO house) and to assess whether each part is healthy or not.

Volume 4 - Managing Money and Fund Raising:
The fourth book is a very simple guide to managing the money the organisation receives and recording how it is used so that the organisation can show that it is using this money in a honest and cost effective way. In it you will find plenty of worked examples which will help you to understand how to use bank and other book keeping forms. This last book also contains a step by step explanation of how to write a fund raising proposal and how to use it to raise funds for the work of your CBO.
